My Story
I was born in the charming seaside town of San Benedetto del Tronto in the Marche Region, Italy.
I studied Modern Languages at the University of Perugia and specialized with a Master in Education at the University College London.
I continued my linguistic studies and successfully completed a Phd in Applied Linguistics at Birmingham University. I love researching language in particular academic discourse, ELT methodologies, Corpus Linguistics

My courses
From October to December 1989, I embarked on a three-month research study at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, collaborating with Professor R. Reichertz. This opportunity was followed by training in Apple Macintosh computing in February 1990. Between October 1991 and March 1993, I earned a Diploma in English Literature from Birkbeck College, University of London, with a focus on Contemporary Women’s Literature, English and American Poetry, and Victorian Literature, exploring the role of women as readers and writers.
I also attended a one-week course on essay writing and study skills in literature at the City Lit in February 1992. Between 1992 and 1993, I took several language and educational courses, including a German language course at the Goethe Institut, a distance learning course on foreign language teaching from Università La Sapienza, Rome, and a translation skills course at City University.
In October 1993, I pursued an MA in Education at the Institute of Education, London. In March 1995, I expanded my knowledge in multimedia computing with courses in PageMaker, Director, and Photoshop at Westminster University, and explored European political stability at the City Literary Institute. I also completed a Human Resource Management course at City University in April 1995.
Most recently, from September 2016 to October 2019, I completed a PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Birmingham. My thesis focused on rhetorical evaluative resources in the broadsheet review genre, specifically analyzing four British broadsheets.
Work experience
From 1987 to 2005, I worked as a freelance translator, specializing in linguistics, social sciences, history of art, information technology, finance, and economics. In the academic year 1990-1991, I taught English and German at ANILS in Giulianova, Teramo, Italy, where I instructed students from beginners to advanced levels. In May 1991, I served as an English-Italian interpreter at a chemistry conference at the University of Camerino.
Between 1991 and 1992, I taught Italian part-time at St Paul’s School in London, and in May 1993, I earned Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the English Department for Education. I then taught Italian at Mander Portman and Woodward in London from September 1993 to June 1994. During this period, I also contributed as a part-time researcher on a Lingua project focused on teaching foreign languages at the primary school level at the Institute of Education, University College London.
In 1995, I taught Italian at the Arts Educational and Chiswick Community School in London, and in March of that year, I edited My Magic Albion, a textbook for Italian primary school children learning English. I returned to Italy in September 1995 to teach English and Linguistics at Istituto Duca D’Este in Modena, while also working as an English-Italian translator for the Oxford School in Modena. I became a member of the Institute of Linguists, London, in June 1996 and worked as an interpreter at the International Book Fair in Torino in May 1997.
From 1997 to 1999, I was a Senior Lecturer of English at the University of Modena, teaching in the Diploma per il Commercio Estero course. I also supervised workshops on English culture and internet-based learning. From 1998 to 2001, I lectured in Linguistics at the University of Urbino in the Diploma per Esperto Linguistico D’Impresa course.
Since September 2000, I have been a Secondary School Teacher of English, a freelance translator, and a teacher trainer. I have served as the head of the English Department, Etwinning, and Erasmus consultant. In September 2010, I conducted research on resources for teaching English in nursery schools.
